Prep School English Teacher

Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School seeks a full-time English teacher to teach a combination of English 9 and English 10.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach two sections of English 9 and two sections of English 10.
Continued professional development emphasizing student-centered instructional practices that promote critical thinking, collaboration, and self-reflection.
Plan and facilitate meaningful, discussion-based lessons that help students think critically, read perceptively, and write with clarity and power.
Cultivate students’ intellectual curiosity, teaching them how to pursue their own interests in reading, writing, and the world of ideas.
Collaborate with a lively and collegial department dedicated to finding ways English curriculum design and pedagogy can challenge students appropriately, enhance cultural literacy, and connect school to authentic experience.
Meet regularly with grade-level cohorts to plan curriculum.
Provide meaningful, individualized student feedback and support.
Work closely with colleagues, department head, and prep school administration to support the academic, social, and emotional well-being of all students.
Write well-written, thoughtful semester reports for each student.

QUALIFICATIONS:

B.A. in English or related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
Run well-managed, meaningful, and engaging classes.
Two years experience teaching at the high school level preferred.

WORK HOURS:

7:30 am-3:30 pm Monday through Friday
Weekly faculty and department meetings until 4:30 pm

COMPENSATION:

The salary range for this position is $76,000.000 -$118,500.00 based on completed degree programs and years of lead teaching experience. We also offer a warm and supportive culture as well as exceptional benefits, including but not limited to:
