Choreographer for Elementary & Middle School Theater Productions 

Time Period: 11/1/24 - 5/17/25

Time Commitment: 

• Six month rehearsal process, ~120 hour commitment
• Rehearsals are 3:15-5:15 on select weekdays on the Upper West Side
• Compensation: $4,500 - $5,500

Requirements: 

Columbia Grammar and Prep Middle School is seeking an experienced choreographer for our February 2025 production of High School Musical Jr. and our May 2025 production of Free to Be You and Me. The ideal candidate will have extensive dance and choreographic training as well as experience teaching dance to both elementary and middle schoolers. 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Duties will include choreographing and teaching several numbers for both High School Musical Jr. and Free to Be You and Me, including for individuals, small groups and full-ensemble. You'll be working with 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade performers with a wide variety of experience (including none). A successful candidate will have excellent time and classroom management skills, a strong understanding of middle school behavioral and learning styles, and an ability to choreograph for a range of abilities. Dance rehearsals will run 1-2 hours and will occur 2-3 times per week prior to tech & performance weeks. A number of 30 minute Zoom production meetings will also be scheduled.
